The Underground Wine Cellar & Restaurant of St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort Named In World’s Best Wine List by World of Fine Wine
The ‘World of Fine Wine’ recently announced winners of their World’s Best Wine List, and named DECANTER St. Regis Maldives Vommuli’s wine cellar, among their 3-star level award winners.
St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort’s grand selection of fine wines are managed by Wine Director, Mokshanand Bootun (Nilesh). Prior to joining the newly-opened St. Regis Maldives, Nilesh worked at Anantara Kihavah Villas in the Maldives.
World of Fine Wine’s publication commended DECANTER and said, “Receiving three stars off the bat in its first appearance in the World’s Best Wine Lists (2017) is no mean feat, and should be highly regarded as a top fine wine destination for the Indian Ocean.”
St. Regis Vommuli Resort’s DECANTER is an underground wine cellar and restaurant. The resort’s ultimate hotspot for fine wines and fine dining; Decanter presents a five-course menu prepared by Executive Chef Ayyoub Salameh, paired with exquisite vintage wines carefully curated by Wine Director Nilesh.
World of Fine Wine’s official announcement also read, “The judges of the World’s Best Wine Lists commented that the wine list features a very international selection and a good choice of by-the-glass options. Vintage go as far back as 1755, up to 2015, including an excellent variety of 20th century wines with cherry picked labels from each decade.”
The DECANTER wine cellar showcases over 2000 wine bottles, with over 615 labels from 23 countries. The resort’s magnificent collection of aged wines offer a prestigious pick from each year of the 21st century. According to the resort, the outlet also proudly offers the 1755 Sercial Campanario from Madeira Portugal; the oldest wine available in the Indian Ocean.
DECANTER restaurant and wine cellar of St. Regis Maldives sets an intimate and romantic setting underground, with an elegantly arranged Italian marble dining table which seats 12 guests. The exclusive table also offers additional seating, although the resort recommends guests to make reservations ahead of time. The thousands of classic wines and renowned vintages are all beautifully displayed around the restaurant, resting on sleek white oak wine racks.
The luxury island resort still fresh from its launch, St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort found its home at Vommuli Island in Dhaalu Atoll. Situated a ways from the capital city and main airport of Maldives in Kaafu Atoll, guests can arrive at the resort by a 45 minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport. The first St. Regis located on a private island, the resort is a kaleidoscope of greens and blues.
