The Maldives will be marketed in Russia during the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018.
The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer at a recently held ceremony. The ‘Cabvertisements’ of Maldives would be placed on hundred taxi’s in the Russian capital of Moscow. The taxi’s will promote different aspects of Maldives Tourism and would run for two months starting from June 15th , a day after the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.
“With the new resort developments and openings in the Maldives, we need to boost our destination marketing efforts. This is part of our renewed efforts,” the minister said.
The 40,000 Euro deal will be undertaken by a German-based firm ‘Cabvertising Europe’, which offers taxi-based advertising in 10 countries in Europe.
"A lot of people from all around the world would go to support their teams. And plus Russia is a key market for us. We're also trying to improve flight connectivity. We're doing this together with MATI [Maldives Association for Tourism Industries] and the tourism industry," the minister added further.
The Russian capital expects to welcome over one million visitors from all over the world, while city officials have claimed that over 85-percent of Moscow hotels have already been booked ahead of the global spectacle.
