SATA Awards Celebrates Excellence in South Asian Tourism Industry
The South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) is the first of its kind in the South Asian Region that focuses on the tourism sector, awarding facilities based on service excellence. SATA aims to encourage service standards in the South Asian region. As such, the annual awards ceremony is the most iconic celebration of the service industry at present.
This year’s SATA winners were announced in a glamorous Gala held at the Equator Village in Addu, Maldives. Nominees from India, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives were in attendance at the event. As the host country, Maldives won awards for Leading Honeymoon, Leading Diving and Leading Beach Award, while India bagged the Leading Heritage and Leading MICE Destinations. Sri Lanka took the Leading Surfing destination and Nepal claimed the robust Leading Adventure Destination.
The Leading International Airline and Leading Airline Class were won by Sri Lankan Airlines, while the Leading New International Airline was won by Himalaya Airlines. Spice Jet earned the Leading Low-Cost Carrier Award. Leeli Lounge in Velana International Airport, Maldives, won the Leading Airport Lounge.
The SATA Gala and Awards were telecasted and webcasted live on MaldivesTV and PSM News and garnered worldwide media coverage from multiple nations and international news agencies. In a first, the process of jury was digitalized and real-time scoring was incorporated using a special online application and shared with official auditors Crowe Horwath to ensure credibility when choosing winners. With technology and auditing expert from across multinationals, this year’s awards were taken to a new level of creativity and significance.
SATA announced winners of over 40 categories from over 400 nominations. Gold Winners received the South Asia Awards while the Silver was given to the winners of the respective destination. SATA Founder and President Mr. Ismail Hameed announced that the 2018 edition would be held in India.
The ceremony ended with an open-air cultural music show at the beautiful Equator Village, Maldives. SATA is a High Rise concept that celebrates excellence in the service industry, and a game changer for the South Asian Tourism Industry.
