Marine Discovery Centre to open in Embudu Lagoon in late 2018
Famous International Hotel Chain, Thailand based Singha Estate plans to open a ‘Marine Discovery Centre’ in the Maldives. Following the recent opening of of Marine Discovery Centre in Koh Phi Phi island, Thailand, Singha Estate plans to open its next centre in Embudu Lagoon, in the latter part of the year as part of the Embudu Lagoon Development Project “CrossRoads”.
The purpose of a Marine Discovery Centre is to inform, educate and aware the public and visitors about marine species and its conservation. In addition to this, the centre will also have its own conservation programs - One such program in at the centre in Phi Phi island is to raise Nurse Sharks, a species whose numbers have been depleted in recent years.
“Maldives is currently one of our biggest projects. We have a team of marine biologists working at the destination and making preparations for the marine discovery centre now as well” said by Dirk De Cuyper, Chief Hospitality officer of Singha Estate. He went on to add ““The students here are very enthusiastic and keen on learning about the marine life. We are anticipating that the project will be very successful in the Maldives as well”
