A Maldivian Night in Mumbai - Hosted by MATATO
The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) hosted a ‘Maldivian Night’ at the Four Seasons in Mumbai, India on Friday, 11th May 2018. The event was organized as part of the ongoing campaign by MATATO to attract 100,000 tourists from India in 2018 via destination marketing.
Maldivian Night was attended by more than 200 travel professionals from both countries and served to create a business networking event where Maldivian hoteliers and travel agents had the opportunity to meet and conduct business with more than 150 travel agents and tour operators in India. The event concluded with an entertainment evening that promoted and featured Maldives, this was also joined by Indian media representatives from International Travel brands based in Mumbai.
In 2017, Maldives attracted 83,019 tourists from India, a growth in 24-percent from the previous year, MATATO hopes to raise this to 100,000 by the end of 2018. In order to achieve this, it has been working closely with various local stakeholders like the Ministry of Tourism and The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), including working alongside the Indian Embassy in the Maldives and a PR firm in India for various publicity and promotions.
“We are really excited about having stepped up Destination Marketing efforts this year. And we look forward to continuing on this branding of events at major travel markets for Maldives. This year so far we have been very loud in our marketing activities in the Asia Pacific region, especially in India” Said Abdulla Ghiyaz Riyaz, President of MATATO.
In addition, MATATO also enjoys a strong partnership with the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), a dynamic organization that guides the travel industry in India.
MATATO is a non profit organisation exclusive to Maldivian travel enterprises with more than 70 members with a diverse membership consisting of tourist resorts, hotels, guest houses, airlines and other travel service providers.
