The world's first fully sustainable surf program - Soneva Surf

Soneva, a luxury operator of resorts in the Maldives has announced plans to launch the world’s first fully sustainable surf program named Soneva Surf, during this forthcoming May.

Using eco-friendly surfboards, leashes, fins, surfboards. Rash guards, sunscreen and board wax. Soneva Surf is encouraging sustainable surfing while being a luxurious pioneer in the sport. Soneva encourages their guests to leave their surfing equipment at home and to use the eco-friendly brands that have been specially chosen by Soneva. These products and equipment will also be available for sale at the Soneva resorts.

The main aim of the program is to tap into the growing interest in the Maldives as an ideal surfing destination and is planned to stretch through to October this year, starting from the first day of the Maldivian surfing season.

“Surfing here is about the search and discovery of something that is secretive and pristine. This is something that is so rare to find in the world these days. What is incredible is that this is something that we have on our doorstep,” said Sunny Yang, Soneva Surf’s Manager.

“Our mission is to show surfers that sustainable surfing can be achieved without sacrificing the quality of the experience.”

In an effort to promote and encourage the younger generation to understand the power and vulnerability of their ocean home, Soneva will also be working with local communities to support further developments in the surfing across Maldives, as part of the same program. Soneva will also be working with partners to lend a hand in providing equipment, opportunities and training for aspiring Madivian surfers, including hosting surfing events in the future.

Soneva Surf will be available to take part in both Soneva Fushi in Baa Atoll and Soneva Jani in the Noonu Atoll. The resort’s luxury charter yacht, Soneva in Aqua will also offer a Surfing Charter within botht he atolls.

According to Soneva, the 13 spots in Baa and 11 in Noonu discovered for surfing by the team of Soneva are more to the taste of intermediate to advanced surfers eventhough beginners will also find suiting spots to let them enjoy to the fullest.

Each of these spots are secluded and very less travelled to, which means they are uncrowded and secret. Inorder to keep it that way for the future guests, these spots will only be disclosed to the guests booking the package.
