Maldives Welcomes The First Visitor of 2018
With the delightful celebrations and well wishes of a New Year, Maldives has welcomed the first visitor of 2018, at a media event held at Velana International Airport.
The first visitors, of British nationality, Ms. Georgina Holbrook who arrived with her family on FlyDubai flight number FZ559 was warmly welcomed by the officials of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), alongside representatives of Maldives Airports Company (MACL) and Maldivian tourism industry.
On this occasion, Maldives opens up a fresh chapter of new goals to achieve and new dreams to accomplish. Over the past few years, several events have been conducted successfully which included welcoming the first visitor, 500K visitor, the 750K visitor and the ground breaking One-millionth visitor.
The media even officially began with the stamping of the first visitor by the Maldives Immigration. Soon after which Ms. Holbrook was escorted to the VIP lounge by the staff of MMPRC, where her family was welcomed by Acting Managing Director of MMPRC Mr. Haris Mohamed and was presented with the congratulatory certificate and a special gift reflecting the traditional Maldivian culture and tourism. Additionally she was awarded a complimentary holiday package of 7 nights including internal transfers, sponsored by Furaveri Island Resort which was presented by Chief Financial Officer of Furaveri Island, Mr. Hussain Hilmy.
British market has been one of the most prominent markets to Maldives over the 45 years of tourism in the country. Until November, 94,258 tourists arrived from the UK alone, which is a growth percent of 1.1 in contrast to the same period last year. In 2017, 1,389,548 tourists arrived in the Maldives which is a growth percent of 8.04 compared to that of 2016.
