Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition Takes Maafushi by Storm
The Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition 2017 organized by Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has ended with a big win for guesthouses in the host island Maafushi.
With more than 70,000 votes registered online and through SMS, MATATO Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition celebrated 15 prestigious winners from among 96 nominees across 12 categories. The awards were conferred based on popular votes as well as reviews by travelers. The Guesthouse Edition Awards are a first of its kind to recognize the local tourism achievements in the industry.
Guesthouses in Maafushi won some of the most prestigious awards including Leading Guest House Island, Leading Guest House Brand, Most Supportive Guest House and the Leading Innovative Guest House. Awards were also conferred to the Leading Guest House in Diving and Water Sports, Leading Food and Beverage Guest House, Leading Heritage Guest House, Leading Business Guest House and Leading Transport Provider. With over 250 industry professionals in attendance, the MATATO Maldives Travel Awards Guesthouse Edition in Maafushi was a great success. President of MATATO, Abdullah Ghiyas attributed the inspiration behind the awards to the guesthouse businesses in the industry. He said that MATATO has participated in 12 travel trade shows and hopes to increase the number to 19 next year.
Launched in 2012, Maldives Travel Award has been celebrating the most prestigious, comprehensive and sough after services in the tourism sector. The awards are intended encourage professionalism in the tourism industry by recognizing excellence in the local tourism sector.
MATATO is scheduled to host the Gala Edition for Maldives Travel Awards designed exclusively for resorts on November 23, 2017. MATATO is set to give away 55 recognition awards for the tourism industry through three editions of the Maldives Travel Awards.
