Special activities to celebrate World Wildlife day at Hurawalhi Maldives
As the UN World Wildlife Day approaches, Hurawalhi Maldives will be joining in the celebrations on March 3rd with a series of events and activities. The UN World Wildlife day is one to celebrate the countless and fascinating forms of wild fauna and flora as well as one to raise awareness of issues that impact wildlife. Hurawalhi Maldives is located among one of the most bio-diverse ecosystems, and so the day is focused on showcasing the excellence of the surrounding coral reefs. Moreover, the day will also take the opportunity to cast a light on how fragile the environment is.
SNORKELLING EXCURSION & EXPERT TALK
The Marine Biology Center and Prodivers, Hurawalhi Maldives’ diving partner will be conducting a special World Wildlife Day snorkeling excursion. The itinerary includes a snorkeling excursion to explore the vibrant reef of Lhaviyani Atoll and a 30-minute presentation on coral reefs before the trip by Sebastian Steibl. The PhD student from the University of Beyreuth, Germany will be covering the topic of the significance in coral reefs and the importance of their protection. Sebastian is presently conducting research on the interrelationship between hermit crab shells and the health status of coral reefs in Lhaviyani Atoll.
NAME A SEA TURTLE!
Hurawalhi’s resident marine biologist, Lisa, acquires help with naming a juvenile green sea turtle. In occasion of the UN World Wildlife day, Hurawalhi Maldives will introduce participants to a sea turtle that is currently up for adoption and will be invited to help name it. The name will be given based on a social media-lucky draw from the suggested submissions on the resort’s Facebook and Instagram . The competition will take place on Friday, 3rd March and you have the chance to adopt your very own sea turtle in the Maldives, all you have to do it comment the name below the relevant photo!
