Hotspots - Mariano Silvestri
MVHOTELS speaks to Mariano Silvestri, General Manager of Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa to find out his favourite spots in the world for total relaxation, great food and inspiring scenery.
Born and raised in the Mendoza province of Argentina, Mariano Silvestri has lived in the United Arab Emirates, China and now the Maldives, where he lives in ‘paradise’ with his wife Rachel and toddler daughter Nesta.
Total relaxation: “My favourite places for total relaxation are Bali, Indonesia and Kathmandu, Nepal. The relaxed pace of life and peace and quiet of Bali is wonderful; even in bustling neighbourhoods like Seminyak you can still find little corners of tranquility, while up in the rice paddies of Ubud you can really lose yourself in the calm and silence. Kathmandu really needs to be experienced to understand the effect the altitude and majestic scenery has.”
Great food: “I love to eat, so I can usually find something to enjoy wherever I travel, from Kuala Lumpur's street markets, to a great xiaolongbao at Din Tai Fung in Singapore. But the place to top it all must be Italy: my wife and I spent our honeymoon in Puglia, and it was as though the feast would never end. Homemade orecchiette, cheeses and cured meats as well as the freshest fruit and vegetables were some of the highlights from a trip that was a true delight for the taste buds.”
Inspiring scenery: “Growing up next to the Andes, I suppose I'm quite biased when it comes to mountain scenery, but one place that made a true impression were the incredible and enchanting hills of Yangshuo, Guangxi province in China. With the romantic Li and Yulong rivers winding their way between them, the towering limestone karst peaks are strange and beautiful; a truly unique place in the world. They really must be seen to be believed: they even appear on the 20 yuan note!”
